Jim Schatz is an artist, designer, and founder of J Schatz Studio, a Detroit-based ceramic studio working across sculpture, lighting, and one-of-a-kind objects. His sculptural practice explores material transformation, queer embodiment, repetition, surface, gesture, and the emotional charge of handmade objects. Trained as a designer and self-taught as a ceramicist, Schatz has worked in stoneware for over two decades, and his studio's production catalog has been recognized by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Interior Design. His exhibition work moves between figuration and abstraction, often in series. Schatz lives and works in Warren, Michigan, and co-founded Take Me Home with Peter Souza Jr. in 2025.
