Geometria Collection
By Jim Schatz
15 stoneware tiles in a wood frame.
Geometria Tile Mural 1 sets fifteen tiles edge to edge in a grid of three rows, each carrying its own Geometria composition — half circles, quarter arcs, rings and split discs. Shapes cross from one tile into the next, so the piece reads at once as a single field and as fifteen separate studies.
Glossy glazes run from burgundy, blush and cream through ochre, olive and rust to black, set against a warm brown ground. Each tile is finished by hand at the Detroit studio.

Slab-built white stoneware, finished by hand in layered glaze. Each bowl reduces form to essentials: a circle, a half-moon, a split disc, held inside a field of color. The work sits between serving ware and still life.
Each piece is titled by the glaze recipe that produced its surface, a record of how the work was made. One of a kind, 12 inches in diameter.

A compact table lamp built on a single glazed stoneware brick. Each base carries one Geometria composition, finished by hand at the Detroit studio: a blue-grey disc set into a rust field on Lamp 1, a rust quarter arc sweeping across grey on Lamp 2. A 2½" brass stem lifts an 8" fabric shade, and a fully dimmable brass socket and switch take the light from a low glow to full. Two are available, each one of a kind.

The Geometria Table Lamp treats simple geometry as a sculptural problem — intersecting ceramic volumes resolved into a single cubic base. Subtle variations in glaze and surface make every piece different within the edition. Paired with a white linen shade that diffuses the light, the lamp reads equally as object and illumination.

2 stoneware tiles in a wood frame.
Geometria Tile Mural 2 joins two large stoneware tiles into a single relief. Concentric lines are drawn through every shape — a spiral, arches, quarter arcs and a ringed disc — so the surface moves like a contour map across the seam.
Glazes run from silver-grey and bronze through ochre, olive and rust to black, set against a dark brown ground. Each tile is finished by hand at the Detroit studio.
