Peter Souza Jr.
Peter Souza Jr. is an artist, sculptor, and builder living and working in Detroit. His practice moves between wood, clay, and steel, building forms that sit between architecture and the body — neither sculpture nor furniture, occupying the threshold between. Recent work includes the Honcho 1986 ceramic series and the hybrid clay-and-wood totems developed with Jim Schatz for Radical Presence. Underlying the work is an ongoing inquiry into living within and arranging chaos — finding balance inside imperfection. Souza is a principal at J Schatz, where his studio practice extends through ceramics and sculptural lighting. He maintains a separate design-build practice as Peter Detroit.
